Zinc-containing Denture Adhesives in the News
ABC’s Good Morning America aired a segment on Feb. 9 about zinc-containing denture cream http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/did-doctor-delay-denture-cream-research-12874317. Some previous reports in the scientific literature indicate a possible association between excessive use of zinc-containing denture creams and neurological and hematological problems. When this issue surfaced in the media a year ago, the ADA posted a press statement that more information is needed to determine if there is a cause and effect relationship between ill health effects and the overuse of denture cream containing zinc. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not issued an advisory or recall of zinc-containing denture creams at this time.
