As Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, our area of concentration extends to the entire facial area, not just the mouth. Our surgeons are skilled in cosmetic procedures including Botox®. Using Botox® we can reduce fine lines and relax muscles, enhancing your look or even as a way of reducing pain.
Botox® is an injectable purified toxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. When mixed with saline and used in small doses, Botox® produces highly successful results in both cosmetic and medical treatments. In addition, it is noted for remarkably low levels of complication.
Many years of smiling, frowning, and raising eyebrows result in repeated muscle contractions of those areas of the face and the formation of wrinkles. An injection of Botox® into a specific facial muscle will block transmission and result in its temporary paralysis. In turn, the muscle is unable to contract and cause wrinkles.
Reducing Lines: Botox is most commonly used to diminish visible signs of aging by decreasing the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. The targeted injection of Botox will temporarily paralyze the muscle and remove the wrinkles from that area.
Reducing Facial Pain: Clenching and grinding can lead to myofascial pain in specific facial muscles. Botox injections can decrease the muscular pain and decrease clenching and grinding.
Botox® injections are a technique-sensitive treatment. Our Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons are trained, and medical experts in facial anatomy. Our surgeons will work with you to understand your desired outcome and will discuss the treatment results achievable.
Each patient experiences different feelings during the injection process, but most patients say it feels like a pinch. If you are not care concerned, talk to your surgeon about your options.
While complications are rare, and not permanent, 3% of patients experience eyelid drooping and 1% experience eyelid swelling.
Result times vary, but most patients see results within 7 days for moderate to severe frown lines.
Results will vary for individuals, but most patients see results lasting up to 4 months.
